A bright but chilly morning gave way to warm afternoon sunshine as a slightly reduced—yet perfectly capable—team tackled a full day of activity on site.
The day began with a full practice run of the upcoming train ride and guided tour ready for our Easter opening weekend – not long now. The crew set out all display items across the yard and shed before taking the passenger train down to Long Walk Station to collect our “willing” volunteers and staff acting as the “test” public. They were brought up to Powdermill Cut Station for the full tour experience and returned afterwards, offering enthusiastic and positive feedback about the progress made so far.
After lunch, work continued across several areas: final paintwork touches on the brakevan, preparation of timber panels for high‑level installation on the west wall of Shed 83D, and cleaning and undercoating of the old fire‑alarm call‑point standard along with the protective posts around the mechanism for point set No. 12.
A busy, constructive day all round, with encouraging reactions to the developing visitor experience and steady progress across multiple restoration and maintenance tasks.
