Your support keeps this living piece of industrial history alive and growing.
Our railway is run 100% by volunteers, preserving one of the largest collections of RNAD and ROF narrow‑gauge vehicles anywhere. Every pound we raise goes directly into preserving, maintaining and improving this unique narrow‑gauge line. If you enjoy what we do, believe in hands‑on heritage, or simply want to help keep a small railway alive, your support genuinely makes the difference.
There are several ways to get involved. A general donation helps us push forward with essential maintenance, repairing our existing historic wagons, improving the passenger experience, maintaining track and infrastructure, and expanding the railway’s educational work. Even small contributions go straight into materials, tools and parts that keep the railway moving. Or, you can also choose to support a specific project.
Sponsor A Sleeper
Help us extend our line north its next 300 metres over a canal and towards the Grand Magazine and restore more of this historic railway.
£5 gets us one sleeper closer to our goal.
£20 provides 5 sleepers and your Name on our Wall of Fame.
£50 supports a whole track section and an invite to ride on our Man Rider.

Restore a Greenbat
BB307 is a totally unique one-of-a kind locomotive we would love to cosmetically restore. The only diesel locomotive ever made by Greenwood and Batley in 1964.
£5 helps to restore the locomotive.
£20 Gets your Name on our wall of Fame.

Fund a Wagons Comeback
Help us restore the next Passenger Train and convert this flat, rusty wagon back into being an RNAD Brake Van ready to take visitors on an adventure and increase our capacity.
£5 provides timber, screws or a corner bolt.
£20 provides essential paint and gets your Name on our Wall of Fame.

Every bit of support helps us keep the railway operating, preserve rare equipment, and continue sharing this remarkable site with the public. If you’d like to help us keep the Gunpowder Railway alive and moving forward, we’d love to have you with us.
Volunteer with us!
If you prefer to get hands‑on, you can volunteer with us. Our volunteers come from all backgrounds and skill levels, and there’s always something to do: from trackwork and restoration to gardening, events, and helping visitors. Volunteering brings real benefits: learning new skills, being part of a friendly team, contributing to a living piece of industrial history, and seeing the results of your work running on the line. Just enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved is all thats required.
We are onsite every Wednesday and Saturday – plus other days as needed during the week.
You can also learn to drive a train or become a guard on the Gunpowder Railway. Full training is provided, and no previous railway experience is needed.
Whether you’re interested in operating locomotives, managing safe train movements, or helping passengers enjoy their visit, you’ll be supported every step of the way. It’s a rare chance to gain practical heritage railway skills, work closely with historic equipment, and be part of a friendly team keeping a unique line alive.
