We have benches! And less rubbish.

The weather made sure we didn’t forget it was still March, with a sharp, biting wind across the site and even a quick burst of sleet just before lunch. Despite that, the team stayed cheerful and got stuck into a whole mix of jobs. Painting carried on around the fire‑alarm standard and the posts by the lever for pointset no.12, adding a bit more polish to the area.

The Raletrux lettering was stencilled onto the brakevan ends meaning another restoration project wrapped up nicely. Two wooden benches destined for Long Walk Platform were given a thorough clean and with the help of the manrider, the benches were taken down to Long Walk before lunch, which somehow turned into a group photo moment that looked suspiciously like a line‑up from a crime show.

After lunch, attention turned to shifting the two heavy wood‑and‑metal benches round to Powdermill Cut platform. Meanwhile, planning began for the best route to run a new electrical cable from 83C to the container, and the PAT tester was shown around the remaining buildings to finish off the compliance checks.

The concrete pad beside the workshop is now finished, ready for the diesel tank to be moved away from ARS2 so that building can eventually open safely to the public. It’ll also make refuelling engines far easier in the long run. With that in mind, a big chunk of the day went into the ongoing clearance of ARS2. It’s slow, heavy work, especially with so many track fixings needing sorting and then moving across to the new container unit, but steady progress continues.
