A cool but bright and—crucially—dry day meant outdoor work could continue, even with a slightly smaller team. A potential new volunteer joined the group, adding a welcome extra pair of hands.
The morning began with the JCB lifting two panels of 18‑inch‑gauge track and moving them to the upper yard, ready to be cut in half for collection. The dumper truck then delivered a load of self‑binding gravel to the hardstanding beside shed 83D, where the team began spreading it as the final surface layer. With a couple more loads brought round, the whole area was completed and partly tamped by early afternoon. The improvement is striking, and enough material remains to surface the area outside ARS2 once refurbishment is complete.
With the gravel work finished, attention returned to shed 83D. Timber fixing rails were sorted and the first of them installed along the building.
Meanwhile, the JCB was put to further use clearing more of the upper yard before work shifted to repairing the vibrating plate machine, which had become decidedly unwell. Fortunately, a compatible spare engine was found in the workshop and should fit with only minor adjustments.
A day of clear, visible progress – thanks entirely to the hard work of everyone on site.
