A wet and windy afternoon on site, though thankfully not too cold, and with most of the regular Wednesday team present a good amount of work was achieved.
The day began with the JCB heading to the far end of the site to move haylage. After that, most of the day was spent reassembling the Baguley pipework and refilling the locomotive with the various oils and fluids it requires.
Cladding work on shed 83D continued despite the weather, helped by the fact that the wind and rain were blowing in the opposite direction. The final three lower cladding panels on the west elevation were fitted, and the roof tarpaulins were pulled tight and secured with timber battens – all completed before lunch.
In the afternoon, new fire‑exit signage was installed inside the shed, while preparation work resumed on the Dough Wagon. A check of the stores confirmed that the correct Bishopton springs and axleboxes for the new passenger brakevan are indeed available, along with a full spare set of axleboxes and roller bearings, useful for a future plan now taking shape.
