Busy Day Advancing Ballasting and Yard Buildings

ballast team in action

A strong turnout on site meant plenty of progress across multiple jobs. The JCB was put to work early to shift rail and ballast in the Permanent Way Yard, improving access for the lorry due to deliver the new storage container. The container location was marked out so that photos could be sent to the delivery company.
Throughout the day the JCB was also used to load the ballast wagon 4 times, allowing a team to run material to the main line with Chris H and continue top‑ballasting between pointsets 3 and 4, where solid progress was made.
Elsewhere, marking out and installation was undertaken on the first of the top‑end panels for shed 83D. Work on the Baguley refurbishment was completed the locomotive is now fully reassembled and ready for running the passenger service this upcoming season and the battery put on charge.
At lunchtime the monthly team meeting to take place. Then, in the afternoon the first high-end wall panel for shed 83D was lifted and secured, though it apparently put up quite a fight. Further refurbishment of rail scotches continued, ready for future use with exhibition stock – and stop it rolling away.
A productive and energetic day overall, with thanks to everyone who contributed.
