Trustees visit, stocks move and spring cleaning starts

wagon rescue

A warm, bright day on site. With a short visit from the trustees expected, the morning was spent tidying and getting equipment ready for display. The JCB was used early on to move haylage for the deer, while prep work continued on the mini‑digger.
Locos and stock were brought out of sheds 83A and 83B for a new‑year spring clean, and the Baguley was then moved from the hoist bay and back to head up the passenger train so restoration work on the dough wagon can continue in the near future.
A small group of trustees arrived at lunchtime, giving us the chance to show recent progress, including sheds 83C and 83D built from recycled materials.
Afterwards, everything was put away again, and the JCB was used to recover a replica 18‑inch gauge wagon that had ended up in the canal. Later in the afternoon, measurements were taken for the final wall panel of shed 83D, ready for fitting at the weekend. Work also began on freeing a seized tamper (wacker compactor), finding a bolt blocking the flywheel with signs it might be repairable.
