Another warm and bright day on site, comfortable enough to keep everyone moving. With the Mills Open Day running, two trains operated and carried a healthy load of satisfied passengers. A good turnout of volunteers meant several ongoing projects progressed while a new one began.
Fuel went into the generator early on, followed by setting out the usual locos for display. Work then continued on wagon restoration: the replica 18” powder wagon received its final roof paint and ridge timber refixing, while the Dough wagon had its roof panels drilled, fitted, and trimmed, leaving it ready for its material covering and next topcoat.
The implementation of the new Wickham trolley continued firstly with cleaning the accumulated grease from the axle boxes before applying a fresh black paint topcoat to its chassis. Groundworks also advanced today as machinery was started up to excavate and level the area for the second extension storage track behind shed 83A, preparing future space for the new open wagons and a the relocation of an old works wagon chassis out from the busy Main Yard.
Workshop organisation also saw attention, improving safety and keeping the space in order.
