A dry day on site brought a welcome bit of afternoon sunshine, even if the breeze kept things fresh. With a small but determined team on hand, work continued at pace as we prepare for the start of the new running season at Easter.
The morning began with two successful train runs for a visiting school group, adding another 47 delighted passengers before the season has even officially begun. Elsewhere, a spare wooden bench was moved up to the railway yard; once cleaned, it will make an ideal addition to the Long Walk Platform.
A major focus of the day was reorganising trackwork components. Items were transferred from ARS2 into the new container, and some redundant office timber units were cleverly repurposed into floor bins to keep the space tidy. With pandrol clips and fishplates now relocated, even more floorspace has been freed up in ARS2. In the workshop, the mini‑digger repaint was completed, leaving it looking brand new. After lunch, spare self‑binding gravel was used to level out a couple of dips that had formed outside shed 83C. Vehicle restoration also moved forward. Prep work continued on the Dough wagon, while the passenger brakevan received further lining and lettering. The van even had its first public outing this morning, attracting positive comments on its refreshed appearance. All lettering is now complete, and the lining is progressing beautifully.
To round off the day, undercoating of the cladding panels on the west side of shed 83D was finished. Another productive session on site, with thanks to those who stayed on a little later to keep things moving.
