A warm and sunny spring day on site brought plenty of activity and a wide range of tasks to record.
The major development was the arrival of the lorry to collect the remaining 18‑inch‑gauge coaches to take them to their new home on the Steeple Grange Railway. The loading was completed efficiently, and the vehicle departed for its return journey.
While this was underway, work continued across the site. The ballast wagon was loaded by hand, painting progressed on the mini‑digger, and the restoration of the brakevan lettering was completed on one side. The result looks superb and will really enhance the RNAD rake during future visitors.
Site clearance also moved forward. Steel plating stored against the outside wall of 83B was relocated using the JCB to create space for the new concrete diesel‑tank slab due to be cast by contractors. The JCB was then used to move the old, thankfully deactivated, sea mine from the PW Yard to the north yard, followed by repositioning the ballast piles. These adjustments are essential to ensure that the lorry delivering the new storage container can reach the site, given the significant space required for both the vehicle and its outriggers.
Work continued on the new shed 83D as well, with undercoat being applied to the exterior cladding panels once the brakevan lettering was completed. The momentum across the team was impressive, with everyone pushing ahead at full pace.
