Warm Weather Helps Clear the Yard

steel on wagon

A bright and warm day on site was very welcome, even with a reduced team due to illness and other commitments. A small group headed off to collect some donated timber, which will be useful for rafters and cladding supports on the new shed.
Back on site, the rest of the team continued tidying the main yard now that the contractors have finished their major work. The two new paths—to one shed and from the top yard to the platform—are looking good, with completion expected soon.
The steel components were unloaded from a derailed wagon and stored safely, after which the wagon was re‑railed and moved to the workshop area. There it was reloaded with spare wagon ends ready for its future restoration. Another wagon chassis was moved out of the turntable siding and returned to its shed, followed by the re‑housing of the re‑railed wagon.
A Powfoot wagon left on the yard loop was also moved back to sit alongside its matching wagon at the end of the new display siding. With that done, the main yard is now clear, and the only remaining clutter belongs to the contractor—due to be gone within the week.
The timber‑collecting team returned at lunchtime with a good haul, including rubber matting. After lunch, work continued with the dismantling of the remains of a very rotten narrow‑gauge wagon, while others progressed with the motorised trolley project and completed an operational brake system for the Wickham trolley.
