Boiler relocated, columns prepared, and groundwork improved.

point lever cleaning

A warm, dry and pleasant day on site, and work continued despite only having a skeleton crew available.
Three team members used the JCB to move two redundant concrete sleepers to the east side of shed 83C and positioned them as plinths for the Mars boiler. The Mars boiler was then lifted and moved into its new location, leaving space around it for painting and general maintenance. This cleared the main part of the Yard so that contractors can get their vehicles up to shed 83C when flooring work begins later this month.

The team then identified the steelwork for the four additional columns for shed 83D and moved three lengths requiring trimming to the entrance of 83B. One member cut the three columns to the correct length with the plasma cutter while two others finished drilling the required holes in the new windbraces. Another team member re‑levelled the disturbed ground around point lever no. 8, while someone else looked for suitable metal angles and plates to make the new base and head plates for the columns. Finally, two team members cleaned down two of the columns so they are ready for painting on Wednesday. Meanwhile, another member continued with the final re‑assembly of the motorised trolley unit.
