Final training, new names and the big clear continues

A bright day on site, bright in the sense that the sun technically showed up, even if it still felt like it had forgotten to turn the heating on. Still, no rain, which instantly qualified the day as a win which instantly put everyone in a better mood.

The morning started with a final passenger‑train training run for two new trainees, both of whom are steadily moving from “nervous enthusiasm” to “almost competent enough.” Their driver and guard practice is coming along well, and the train returned without any unexpected detours. One of the training runs was used to carry the posts and running‑in boards down to Long Walk Platform, ready to start installing the Station Name Plates ahead of the Easter weekend.

Elsewhere, the cladding crew were focused on the fiddly header panels above the shed windows in the new 83D. t’s the sort of task that requires precision, patience, and the ability to resist shouting at inanimate objects.

Meanwhile, another group kept clearing the junk stored within at ARS2, which continues to reveal new surprises every time someone thinks they’ve reached the end. By the end of the day though, the area was almost completely cleared, a small triumph and a satisfying way to wrap things up.

After lunch, the main yard received a final tidy, and some portable fencing was shifted up to the upper car park. Another small team then headed to New Hill to recover timber battens for the container lighting. There’s nothing like carrying long, awkward objects to remind you that teamwork is mostly about not whacking each other in the shins.

Within the container our electrician continued the noble quest to find a sensible route for an electric cable into said container. Early indications suggest the container is resisting.
