A grey and slightly chilly afternoon, but with no rain we were able to tackle a wide mix of jobs. With plenty of people on site, a few larger tasks finally got underway.
Two volunteers refuelled the generator, while others used the site machinery to move a completed bufferstop into its final position. More of the team cleared the central area of one shed to create much‑needed working space, temporarily moving the passenger train to make access easier.
The site vehicle was then used to support the contractor working on yard improvements, including clearing tree debris from the track between the platform and the top yard. Elsewhere, a new clearance sign was fitted, and the remaining fouling‑mark locations were measured and marked. All the fouling markers were then cleaned and primed ready for installation at the weekend.
Work continued on the wagon restoration, with early cleaning of the metal floor. In another shed, the contractor completed the sub‑base and laid the reinforcing mesh, meaning the concrete pour is close.
After lunch, a group began the slow but necessary job of levelling the floor area inside the frame of a new shed. It may not look dramatic, but solid progress was made, even finishing with a run of the vibrating plate.
Meanwhile, workshop tasks carried on steadily—no idle hands anywhere on site.
