Team Pushes Ahead Ballast Drops Down

ballast works train

A bright, dry and slightly cooler day brought a full team on site, which meant plenty of outdoor work could move forward. With the first phase of tasks edging toward completion, everyone made the most of the settled weather.
The site machine was used to fill the ballast wagon twice and to move more material to the new hardstanding beside one of the sheds, before work continued on a trolley restoration. Elsewhere, the ballast works train headed out again for the labour‑intensive job of top‑ballasting the track between two key points on the line.
Another group levelled the fill beside the shed and compacted it with the vibrating tamper, leaving the area ready for its final surface layer.
Early planning also began for a potential 18‑inch‑gauge exhibit area. Suitable timber was selected from recent deliveries to build wooden chassis frames for replica wagons, and more timber was chosen for the roof purlins on the new shed. Combined with timber found elsewhere on site, there is now enough to complete three of the four bays.
To round off the day, the team retrieved the components of the extended scaffold tower from storage and assembled the lower section, ready to begin installing the purlins on the new shed.
A productive day with strong momentum across multiple projects.
