Tree on the line then cleared, much other progress

new check rail

A day of mixed results on site today. At least the rain stopped as we arrived, allowing outside tasks to continue.

One train was run for 20 passengers, though a substantial fallen tree was discovered across the south loop, requiring some creative stock shunting to operate the service. Tree surgeons later cleared the obstruction from the line.

One team member continued painting the compressor unit for static display, while another sourced a correctly sized piece of timber for the new upright stanchion on the Dough wagon and marked it for cutting.

Two team members began drilling the fixing holes in the new columns for shed 83D. After seven drill bits, only around three of the twenty holes had been completed however the steel proved exceptionally dense and progress was frustratingly slow.

Another team member finished fabricating the additional check/guide rail for pointset no. 15 and fitted it during the afternoon. Tests with two Trecwn wagons and the Gilbert showed everything working well, thankfully. A new standing operating instruction will be issued shortly, directing train crews to shunt over that point at dead slow.

By the time all this was completed, it was time to pack up for the day.
