Ballasting, Purlins, Cladding Timber and Tarp Installed

A full team braved a cold, windy and wet day, managing to dodge the worst of the showers and keep outdoor work moving.

The day began with loading the ballast wagon and shifting fill material to the area outside one of the sheds, while another wagon was lifted onto the hoists ready for chassis work. A pair of volunteers then travelled off‑site to dismantle an oversized packing case, salvaging timber that will be essential for cladding the new shed.

Out on the main line, the ballast wagon was taken to continue the top‑ballasting work between two key sections of track. Meanwhile, others brought out the scaffold tower and carried on fitting timber purlins to the new shed frame.

The first large tarpaulin was then pulled into place and secured, giving a clear sense of the scale of the structure now rising.

At lunchtime, a COSHH training session was held, followed by the monthly team meeting. A few more purlins were fixed afterwards, but with rain returning and daylight fading, the team wrapped up for the day.

Despite the conditions, a strong amount of practical progress was achieved across multiple projects.
