Within the Railway Works

The Rolling Stock Display Museum

The Display Museum is open to the public whenever possible and is where you can see a wide selection of fully restored heritage military railway vehicles all involved in the production and transportation of gunpowder.

Just outside there is also a sectioned steam boiler to see. Note that steam locomotives were never used on this site – due the high risk of explosions!

Locomotive Workshop

The locomotive Works is where locomotives are repaired, restored, refurbished and reconstructed.

Carriage Works and Storage

This tent like building holds the main carriages and related vehicles used for running passenger trains on the railway. In here repairs are also undertaken as needed and currently a new brake van is under construction.

Crew Facilities

The other buildings within the railway works are used by the Railway Crew and include a mess hut (for tea breaks), wood-working facilities and health and safety equipment storage.

Air Raid Shelter Number 2 (ARS 2)

This building is not currently accessible and is used for storage however it will be cleared and opened to the public as soon as possible. This was an air raid and explosives shelter for the staff working in the gunpowder factory.
